RENATO RANALDI
(Florence 1941)

Renato Ranaldi was born in 1941 in Florence, where he still lives and works. He began his artistic life in 1962, with painting, and showed almost from the outset a will to research how different stylistic methods in his artist language could be reconciled. After experimentation with many techniques and materials, his attention turned specifically to design. All his skill with plastic forms springs from this interest. And from that experimentation spring a whole series of linked works, all intending to somehow continue a discourse with pieces produced earlier. In his vast oeuvre, there is constant referral to archetypal and symbolic forms at the foundation of the work itself.
In 1988 he was invited to exhibit in a personal capacity at the 43rd Venice Biennale. He has had many exhibitions in private galleries and in museums in Italy (particularly from the Sixties to the Eighties in Florence, Pistoia, Bologna, Rome, Milan, Modena and Macerata) and abroad (from the mid Eighties he made frequent trips to England, France, the U.S.A., Sweden and Spain).
