This year at its stand at miart, Galleria Il Ponte presents a solo show with a set of Corten steel sculptures by Mauro Staccioli.

Mauro Staccioli used Corten steel for the first time in the large sculpture he made in Andorra in 1991.

A characteristic of Corten is the rust on the surface, which forms a protective film, preventing the metal from corrosion. So in his sculptures, in place of the cement mixed with red oxide pigment, Staccioli could often use Corten steel, its rust colour reflecting the earth of his Volterra despite its metallic appearance.
