Mauro Betti was born in 1951 in Cascina (near Pisa). Here, he attended the Art Institute (a secondary school specialized in art) and later obtained his diploma at the Academy of Fine Arts of Florence, where he taught for many years. After an initial stage where he mostly worked on designing objects and furniture, he has been devoted all his energies to painting since the early Eighties. The works of this first period, that were shown at the Galleria Il Ponte in Florence in 1984, were exclusively realized on paper with pencils, pastels and wax crayons. He continued along this line for almost all of the Eighties, then he began tackling canvases, firstly with oils, then working more and more with synthetic enamels. During these years, his work has been exhibited at the Galleria Il Ponte accompanied by monographic catalogues (with texts by Lara Vinca Masini, Luca Baldin, Marina Pizziolo, Angela Madesani, Mauro Panzera). Represented by the gallery, the artist showed his works in the Fairs in Bologna, Milan and New York as well.
